Everyone who read Fashion Conspiracy knows my endless love for handbags. There is something about a high quality bag that can elevate an look instantly. So when Rue la la approached me to do a post about handbags and how to care for them, I was thrilled. I have wanted to give you guys some tips and tips regarding handbags for example how to store them, handbag care and types. I think the reason why I love handbags so much is how they transform a look. I typically wear my more pricy handbags with a 20$ H&M dress, and voila the entire outfit looks more expensive!

My favorite type of bag is most definitely the tote bag, it stores everything you could want in one bag. As a student I need enough room for my notebook, planner and MAC. That is some of the reasons why I really liked the Prada Saffiano Lux tote. For those days I am bringing more than usual to class I switch to the slightly larger Michael Kors jet set tote, such a spacious bag at a great price. Also, if you are looking for this type of tote and want something in between the Prada and the Michael Kors, this Tory Burch Robinson bag is perfect!
I also really like the tote style for travel, it is a great way to get all your essentials on board.

lthough I love the tote styled bags, I must say that my favorite all time bag has to be the Chanel Classic Flap bag. It is such a timeless handbag that I feel goes with everything. I tend to use it if I am going out for dinner with friends or for a date night with Alex. I would probably never use this bag downtown, so for nights out I typically use my Michael Kors trio handbag.

Also had to include this red crossbody bag from 3.1 Phillip Lim. It’s the perfect pop of color and it is surprisingly spacious, I can fit a large sunglass case, wallet, phone, lipstick and some makeup (for extra space inside the bag, simply unzip the sides!). The leather is durable and the bag does not scratch easily. Looking at it now, I think I tend to choose handbags that are made to be more durable, both the caviar leather on the Classic flap, as well as the Saffiano leather on the Prada handbag are super user friendly. It is not that kind of leather that your keys will ruin the look of the bag.

So, on to some of my handbag tips:

1. When storing your bag, stuff it to maintain the shape of the handbag. I usually use foam, but I recently discovered these genius base shapers that maintains the shape of the bag and avoids bag sag!

2. Avoid storing your handbags in direct sunlight. I typically do not store them in their original box, but rather in their dust bag. If you bought your bag used or it did not come with a dust bag, most department stores sell them or maybe if you ask nicely you can get one for free from the designer. You could also protect the handbag by using a pillow case as a dust bag!

3. For more delicate leather types, make sure you purchase some leather care products to maintain the look of the bag.

4. Handbags made of natural fibers and leather handbags should also be stored in a climate-controlled area.

I love your black skirt ~ it is so cool and so sexy. Oddly, for an English guy I am really into women’s handbags, they are a must-have for the well-dressed girl. I do not like huge handbags, for me less is more. Great blog.
